Simple Hard Drive Failure Check.
Our Service Team is often contacted by customers who need to check the status of their “Windows” PC or laptop hard drive whilst in situ.
Checking the health of your computer hard drive is easily achieved using the Windows command interface WMIC.
WMIC is a command-line interface that lets you perform many administrative tasks, including checking to see if your hard drive has failed or has associated fault conditions. WMIC uses the S.M.A.R.T (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) feature of hard drives to interrogate status registers and display a simple Pass/Fail result. It is a quick and a built-in feature of Windows.
To check a hard disk with WMIC simply type “cmd ” in the search widow and hit return to display the system prompt. At the prompt type “wmic ” then “return”. when the interface is ready type “diskdrive” and hit return. Information concerning all hard drives seen by your computer system will be displayed.
At the prompt type “diskdrive get status” and hit return. After a short delay the status of your hard drives will be displayed. Click here:
